What is the Charity Challenge?
Every year Atfal UK take part in an initiative to raise money for charity. We have worked with many different charities in the past and this year we will be working with the International Association of Ahmadi Architects and Engineers (IAAAE) on their Model Village project in The Gambia.
What is a Model Village?
The Model Village project involves selecting an existing village where there is no real prospect of clean water and electrification. These places are usually remote and are off grid. IAAAE works to provide a solar water system, electricity as well as other features to help rehabilitate the lives of the habitants.
- A remote village is selected where infrastructure for clean water and electricity is not available now or in the near future
- A water system is installed, using a solar powered pump which feeds the water to a tank. Gravity is used to then feed the water to various taps around the village
- Children and women don’t need to walk for miles every day to find clean water, it is at their doorstep
- Solar streetlights are installed to help with safety and productivity around the village
- Normally at nighttime it gets pitch black, and unless you light a fire, which can be dangerous, you can't do much more once the sun sets.
- A community centre will be built for the village’s social activities and will be used as a training hub
- Full MTA TV System to be installed to allow habitants to watch Beloved Huzoor atba and remain connected with the Jamaat and the world
- Toilets will be built to help with health, safety and sanitation
- Roads and pathways to be built for safe travel around the village
- A playground for children and a communal football pitch to be constructed
Who are the IAAAE?
The International Association of Ahmadi Architects and Engineers was formed under the guidance of the third Khalifa, Hazrat Mirza Nasir Ahmed (RA). The main objective was to create a body of professionals to provide support for the projects of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
Under the guidance of the current and fifth Caliph, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmed, May Allah be his helper, IAAAE is further mandated to give humanitarian aid to the third world countries. They are tasked to provide solutions for clean potable water to the remotest of areas, and to also bring electrification in these areas.
The association is split into 4 main committees:
- Water for life
- Alternative Energy
- Model Village
- Architecture

What's Your Target?
Become a Charity Challenge Champion by raising at least:
£500
or if you are new at this aim for at least…
£50
How To Get Involved?
Once you’ve created your JustGiving page you’re well on your way to get started. Contact your local and regional nazim to let them know you have begun your campaign. Involve your family and get their help with ideas. And stay tuned for any regional or national events!
The more people you talk to about your campaign the easier it will be to ask them to sponsor you.
Really understand the impact of this project and the people it will directly effect. You will be creating a legacy with your fundraising and the impact will last for generations to come.
The passion you share when explaining the project will bring people closer to you and will enable you to get more sponsors as well.
How to Fundraise?
It may seem a bit scary at first, when you look at your target to fundraise. But remember you have until the end of October 2023 to achieve this. Below you will see many ideas on how to fundraise.
Atfal Ideas –
- Friends – Introduce the project and share your fund raising journey with them and encourage sponsorships. You could even encourage them to take part in the Challenge as a team and raise funds together.
- Schools- Submit a proposal to your form tutor, head of year or head teacher, introduce the project and ask if the school can get involved. They could hold a mufty day, or allow you to hold a stall in their summer fair, you could hold a cake sale or food sale at school. The national and regional aamla can help with resources and manpower for these events too
- Family - Send monthly messages with you Just Giving link to family, a few days after pay day would be ideal as people will have access to more disposable income then.
- Businesses – Approach local businesses or family businesses to help fundraise and donate towards your page, or help the region in collections.
Ideas for Parents and other family members-
- Workplace and friends – The Charity challenge team will produce a template email/whatsapp message for all parents to use and send to their work colleagues and friends as a round robin request to help raise funds for their child’s Charity appeal. Parents should aim to do this a few days after pay day or around the bonus time in the company if there is one.
- Customers – If the parents own a business or are cab drivers, they can promote the appeal to their customers. For shops we can make a collection box and a poster with the JustGiving QR Code. If they are cab drivers, we can produce a template poster for them that they can display in their car so passengers can read and donate as well
- Corporate Sponsorships – Those parents with good relationships at work could suggest a corporate sponsorship too. CC team to provide support for this and a sponsorship presentation too
- The national team will run workshops for parents and atfal on how they can maximise their efforts.

Events To Look Forward To
Why not hold your own fundraising event. This is sometimes the best way to maximise collections and get many people involved. Take a look below for some ideas on what you can do
Charity Street Carwash –
- Use our templates section to create a poster for your event
- Arrange a day or multiple days when you will hold this car wash event
- Speak to the people on your street and pass them the flier so they know when and where to come.

- Charge at least £10 for external and £10 for an internal clean
- Allow customers to donate more by displaying your QR code on the event day
School/Community Fayres
- Most councils, primary and secondary schools hold summer fayres. Ask the organisers if your family can hold a stall. It could be their way to support your challenge if they cannot hold a mufty day or donate directly to the your cause.
- Manpower and gazebos can be provided through the regional or national team
- Think of food items to sell, a BBQ, drinks, cakes etc.
Car-Boot Sales
- Identify the most active carboot sales in your region. For example there is one on the A3 before Guildford. They charge only £15-£25 for a pitch. All you have to do is turn up early on the day and set up your stall
